President's Message

March Madness is behind us, winter’s snow has melted, and Spring has sprung!  Beautiful flowers are popping up everywhere, including the gardens at the Pruyn House.  Stop over and you will see the new fencing around the garden, paid for by the Friends of Pruyn House with the support of our 2025 Annual Appeal.

While this year is the 250###sup/sup### anniversary of the creation of the United States, it is close to the 200###sup/sup### anniversary of the original construction of the Pruyn House (between 1825-1830), which was the residence of Casparus F. Pruyn, the house’s first occupant. Many updates have been made since it was built and presently, the staircase is being repaired.  We are hopeful that it will finish later this year, allowing access to the historical material on the third floor of the House.  While this work may limit some events in the House, it will not affect our popular summer concerts and other events on the grounds.  We will, once again, host six summer concerts to be held in the historic Buhrmaster Barn each Wednesday evening from July 8###sup/sup### through August 12###sup/sup###.  Please see details inside this newsletter.  Admission is still only $5 and children ages 12 and under are free, but please leave your four-legged family members at home.

Please join us in welcoming our new Curator, Jessica Nelson.   We are delighted to welcome her to the Pruyn House family and hope you will get to meet her at events this summer.
